Information about Fire Permits - Open Burning
Updated On: Apr 12, 2014

The State of Maine Forest Service has begun to issue the fire danger class days. The classes range from low to high and what the State issues for a class day dictates the rules you have to follow to burn within the Town of Wells.

A link to the fire danger days can be found on our website on the lower right hand side. Click on the fire danger link. Wells is located in zone 1. Class 1 and 2 days are low. You can get a permit and are allowed to burn from 9am to 10pm. Class 3 day is a moderate fire danger and one is allowed to get a permit and burn from 5pm to 10pm. Class 4 days are high fire danger and no open burning is allowed.

In order to obtain a permit for open burning one must be the property owner or have permission from the property owner, example a contractor or family member. Tenants do not have the right to burn on rented property, you must have permission from the property owner. One is also required to have adults present, hand tools, and a charged garden hose or water available.

Beach fire permits are available for those that live on the ocean side of Ocean Rd. Those permits have different rules and regulations.

If you have any questions you should contact us at the Corner Fire Station. 646-7912
